provide an interesting painting for students to use for storytelling or writing | |

briefly introduce the students to the artist; name, time period, medium used | |

discuss the mood created by the painting which will naturally lead into creative writing | |

develop a storyline from the scene | |

develop characters from people or animals that might be present in the painting | |

have the students imagine themselves entering the painting, what would they see, what is the weather like, who do they meet, what happens next? (e.g. “Mary Poppins”) | |

students can write about the transition from our world to the painted “other” world (e.g. “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”) |
