provide an interesting painting for students to use for storytelling or writing

briefly introduce the students to the artist; name, time period, medium used

discuss the mood created by the painting which will naturally lead into creative writing

develop a storyline from the scene

develop characters from people or animals that might be present in the painting

bullet

have the students imagine themselves entering the painting, what would they see, what is the weather like, who do they meet, what happens next? (e.g. “Mary Poppins”)

students can write about the transition from our world to the painted “other” world (e.g. “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”)
