  Integrating Visual Arts

"Visual arts are a universal language with a symbolic way of representing the world...they also allow us to understand other cultures and provide for healthy emotional expression."(
1)  Recent studies show that teaching visual arts in the classroom can result in students performing better in literacy and critical thinking skills, including thorough description, hypothesizing and reasoning.  However, without an art background, it can be challenging to deliver a curriculum-based visual arts program at the elementary level.  As always, time is an issue so it is a good idea to integrate wherever possible.  Here are some ideas to get you started!
